Supersonic Travel Returning by 2029

Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 demonstrator flight made history this week, successfully breaking the sound barrier and proving that the future of supersonic travel is within reach

This milestone, where the team and Chief Test Pilot Tristan “Geppetto” Brandenburg (below), hit a speed of Mach 1.1 three times in a live broadcast that rivalled the optics of a Jerry Bruckheimer feature film. In a feat of technology, the broadcast was filmed and published from a chaser plane and beamed across the world with Starlink internet in ultra high definition.

This milestone paves the way for Overture, Boom’s groundbreaking commercial airliner set to fly at Mach 1.7, slashing long-haul flight times in half and redefining luxury air travel.

With a capacity of 64 to 80 passengers, Overture (interior design below) is designed to merge speed with sophistication, offering a seamless solution for business leaders and elite travelers who value efficiency as much as exclusivity.

Imagine jetting from Nice to New York in pure luxury in under four hours or enjoying a Hamptons weekend without the exhaustion of conventional long haul flights. The aviation world has taken notice, with 130 orders and pre orders secured from American Airlines, United Airlines, and Japan Airlines, underscoring a strong demand for a return to supersonic luxury.

To bring this vision to life, Boom has begun constructing its Overture Superfactory in North Carolina, gearing up to produce up to 66 aircraft per year. The first airline will grace the skies in 2029.

Unlike the Concorde, which struggled with efficiency, Overture is built for the modern era, crafted from advanced carbon-fiber composites, aerodynamically optimized, and powered by a bespoke propulsion system designed to run on up to 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

“XB-1’s supersonic flight demonstrates that the technology for passenger supersonic flight has arrived,” said the founder and CEO Blake Scholl, pictured above (right), with Brandenburg.

“A small band of talented and dedicated engineers has accomplished what previously took governments and billions of dollars. Next, we are scaling up the technology on XB-1 for the Overture supersonic airliner. Our ultimate goal is to bring the benefits of supersonic flight to everyone.”

The supersonic renaissance has arrived, and for those who value time above all, the sky is about to get a lot faster. Learn more about Overture, XB-1 and Boom (and even pick up some collectors edition merchandise) at boomsupersonic.com
