Leonardo DiCaprio hosted his second annual foundation gala in Saint Tropez last night, attracting his A-list friends like Kate Hudson and Orlando Bloom, along with a bevy of runway stars. Naomi Campbell, Natasha Poly, Jessica Stam, and DiCaprio’s new model girlfriend, Kelly Rohrbach, were all there to support the actor’s ongoing effort to protect our planet.
The actor and film producer opened the evening, explaining his foundation’s mission to help protect endangered species and the regions they live in: “We’ve decimated our forests, wildlands, polluted and over-fished our rivers and oceans; all the key ecosystems that not only serve as a home to our planet’s biodiversity, but also make life here for us possible,” DiCaprio said.
The gala raised $40 million dollars through the auction of luxury items and unique experiences: two private concerts with Elton John were sold for $3m, a home on DiCaprio’s Belize island, Blackadore Caye, sold for $11m and two arctic expeditions with Prince Albert II of Monaco sold for $1.6m. More than $2m were also raised with the sale of DiCaprio’s personal items including his Rolex watch and Andy Warhol artwork.
The event drew stars including Prince Albert II of Monaco, Elton John, John Legend, Heidi Klum, Goldie Hawn, Michelle Rodriguez, Nina Dobrev, Adrien Brody, Sylvester Stallone, Chris Tucker, Irina Shayk and Petra Nemcova.
