Dior Homme debuted the collection in Paris. The audience included J-Hope, Eddie Redmayne, Robert Pattinson, and Miss Fame. Adam DiMarco, David and Cruz Beckham also attended. The newest Global Ambassador, BTS star Jimin, was present as well.
Traditional and contemporary silhouettes were fused in a unique runway presentation. The collection included chunky lace-up boots, crisp shirts, and blazers. Skirts, turtlenecks, slacks, and bomber jackets were also featured. The effortlessly tailored age old classics were showcased in Paris. Actors Gwendoline Christie and Robert Pattinson recited “The Waste Land,” a poem by T.S. Eliot.
According to Dior, the inspiration for Jones for the collection are said to be the the great rivers of London and Paris. Here, the eddies and flows of the water reflects those showcased in Paris. Flux, movement, ease, and fluidity are central to this reflection.
Clothes are hybridised and metamorphosed, worn in individual ways with the agency of the wearer. Androgynous yet masculine silhouettes are sprinkled across both the runway and red carpet. Textures like cavalry twill are incorporated into pieces. Faux fur was also used (as seen on Pattinson) in an ethical quantum leap ahead for luxury.
“The cycle of a fashion house is about regeneration and rejuvenation, just like the cycle of fashion itself. There is always something of the past in the present and future and Dior is no different. In this collection, we wanted to look at the regeneration of the house after the death of Mr Dior, and its rejuvenation with Yves Saint Laurent – his chosen heir – drawing a parallel in literature, through imagery and themes in the waste land. It’s where an old world meets a new one, in change and in flux.” – states Kim Jones, Artistic Director of Dior Collections.
Dior states: Garments are taken directly from the archive, transposed and transformed. The sailor top from the marine ensemble designed by Christian Dior’s successor is loosened in cavalry twill. It also becomes an elongated fisherman’s smock. The traditional vernacular language of knits is subverted. This occurs through a sculptural approach to styling and draping. A melding of tailoring is also involved. An effortlessness infuses all, belying the precision and complexity of a wardrobe that never looks over-complicated.
