Rihanna sued by David LaChapelle for Plagiarism

Rihanna in process of being sued by David LaChapelle for plagiarism for S&M film clip, according to Reuters … and we are taking team LaChapelle’s side on this one (we thought it was directed by him when we watched at the Haute Today HQ).

If you are not familiar with the works of artist and creative director David LaChapelle, then take one look at his editorial works at his website here.

To compare, you can view the controversial clip here:

On the 4th of February celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, who also stars in the clip S&M posted the following comparison on his website.

After seeing the clip, furious LaChapelle even went to extremes of tweeting the following:

“@PerezHilton @rihanna the next time you make a David LaChapelle music video you should probably hire David LaChapelle”

According to LaChapelle’s suit, the video for single S&M copies the “composition, total concept, feel, tone, mood, theme, colours, props, settings, decors, wardrobe and lighting” of his iconic work.

We think S&M director Melina Matsoukas has a lot to answer for. Creative plagiarism. Haute or not?
