Azerbaijan is planning to build the world’s tallest building – taller than the Burj Khalifa

Planned to reach an unprecedented height of approximately 3,645 feet, Azerbaijan Tower is set to become the tallest building in the world. The megastructure is rising on the Khazar Islands, a group of man-made islands in the Caspian Sea located about 16 miles south of Baku.

Developed by Avesta Group, the $2 billion project was slated for completion in 2019. Featuring 189 floors, the tower is designed to eclipse Dubai’s Burj Khalifa as well as Saudi Arabia’s proposed 3,280-foot Kingdom Tower. Additional images are available below.

The Azerbaijan Tower is being built on a series of artificial islands, called the Khazar Islands, constructed in the Caspian Sea off Garadag, southwest of Baku (Google it – we did!).

The development also includes schools, shopping, housing and of course a Formula 1 track.
