The Met Gala has a theme every year and this year it was ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’, which means Chinese-inspired gowns and outfits… one would think. Surprisingly, Rihanna was the ONLY guest to wear a gown by a Chinese designer and that smart (but kind of obvious) choice secured her a Vogue cover. Queen Bey turned heads in a sheer jaw-dropping gown that left little to the imagination, but had nothing to do with the actual theme. Same goes for Kim Kardashian West..
Red was another hit on the night as it symbolizes good fortune and joy in Chinese culture. Scroll down to see our selection of best Haute Red outfits of the night. We applaud the celebs who supported the theme — after all, the ball is intended to celebrate the opening of the new exhibit at the Met museum.
THE HEADLINERS
Rihanna was the night’s biggest risk taker in a bright-yellow ball gown by Chinese couture designer Guo Pei featuring a dramatic train-cape and opulent fur detailing, plus Cartier jewels and triple T-strap Christian Louboutin stilettos called Toerless Muse that aren’t even on the market yet.
Beyonce bared it all in a silk tulle illusion Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci number, strategically embroidered with multicolored crystals and stones, paired with Givenchy suede heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.
