A New Era of Education in Monaco: The British School of Monaco Partners with Monaco Telecom for Innovative Launch

The British School of Monaco, co-founded by Olena Prykhodko Sullivan and Luke Sullivan, proudly announces the grand opening of its new secondary school. This marks a significant milestone for the institution, building on the foundation of academic excellence established in the primary school and expanding its commitment to delivering world-class education in Monaco.

Located just minutes away from Parc Princesse Antoinette, the British School of Monaco offers a modern learning environment. Spread across a spacious 600 m² facility, with an additional 160 m² courtyard, the school’s secondary division is equipped with classrooms for students aged 11 to 16, a well-stocked science lab, an art room, and an infirmary. Administrative offices and a dining area complete the facilities, ensuring a comfortable and conducive learning atmosphere for students.

Monaco’s Premier Secondary Education Experience

Students in the secondary school will be able to take their IGCSE exams starting in 2027, with the school planning to expand its offerings further. By 2028, a new facility will open to host students in Years 12 and 13, dedicated to the prestigious A-Level program, internationally recognized for preparing students for higher education at top universities around the globe.

Bringing over three decades of educational expertise, Alan Stevens has joined The British School of Monaco as Director of both the primary and secondary divisions. With an impressive background, including his time at Marlborough College Malaysia, where he significantly grew the institution’s global reputation, Stevens is well-positioned to lead the school into this next chapter.

PhoneWall: An Innovative Collaboration between Monaco Telecom and the British School of Monaco

A key aspect of The British School of Monaco’s commitment to its students’ well-being is its latest partnership with Monaco Telecom. Together, they are launching the PhoneWall project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at protecting students from the potential negative effects of smartphones and social media on their development. The project is rooted in extensive research highlighting the dangers associated with excessive smartphone use, particularly among children and adolescents.

As part of the initiative, Monaco Telecom will provide students with basic phones, allowing them to maintain communication with their parents while shielding them from the distractions and risks associated with smartphones and social media. This move underscores the school’s dedication to creating a secure and supportive educational environment.

During a recent parent meeting, Martin Peronnet, CEO of Monaco Telecom, presented the details of the PhoneWall project, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding younger generations from digital risks. “This partnership allows us to help protect children and guide them in a healthy direction when it comes to technology,” he said.

Co-founder Luke Sullivan echoed this sentiment: “The PhoneWall project aligns perfectly with our core value of courage. We believe it is our responsibility as educators to protect young people from the dangers of smartphones and social media, especially given the overwhelming evidence that children should not have smartphones before the age of 16. With this initiative, we aim to support parents in addressing this important issue at home.”

The PhoneWall project offers students the new version of the iconic Nokia 3210, a classic phone devoid of internet access, for just €1, alongside a basic monthly plan of €8.99. By collaborating with Monaco Telecom, the school is empowering families to set boundaries around technology while providing a practical solution for staying connected.

As it continues to grow and innovate, The British School of Monaco’s secondary program promises to become a cornerstone of the Principality’s educational offerings—delivering exceptional academic preparation and a learning environment that nurtures each student’s full potential.
